In Memoriam: Anna-Liisa Boyle

Anna-Liisa Boyle of Falls Church, VA, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the age of 80.

She is survived by her son, Bob Boyle (Teri); daughter, Annabelle Serrano (Juan); grandchildren, Hanna and Jackson Serrano. She is preceded in death by husband, Francis Boyle.

Born in Helsinki, Finland, Liisa excelled in athletics as a member of the Finnish National handball and basketball teams. In her late teens, she moved to London to work as an Au Pair. In 1961, her work took her to Redbank, New Jersey where she met her husband, Francis. While raising their two children, Liisa continued her athletic ways as she played tennis, soccer, and bowled well into her sixties. When she wasn't tossing 300 games, Liisa helped out at Fairfax Hospital where she was in the Volunteer Auxiliary for over 37 years. Never one to enjoy idle time, when her son gave up his childhood paper route, she decided to take it over. Although she was a devout night owl, Liisa got up at 4:30 a.m., every morning for the next 32 years to faithfully deliver the Washington Post to her Hillwood neighbors. She took enormous pride in the fact that she never missed a day and always insured everyone's paper was safely placed behind their storm door.

Liisa didn't need much to make her happy. A book of cartoons. An episode of Dancing With The Stars or Toddlers and Tiaras. Pepperoni pizza. Her beloved Cowboys beating the Redskins. A Long Island Iced Tea with her ever-present cigarettes. But most of all she loved talking to people. Whether catching up with a neighbor or chatting with a stranger at the super market, her Finnish accent, feisty personality and inquisitive nature left an impact on everyone she met.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Auxiliary of Inova Fairfax Medical Campus 3300 Gallows Road Falls Church, VA 22042 or (www.Inova.org) for donation information.

A celebration of Liisa's life will be held on Saturday, November 19. For details contact- LiisaBoyleCelebration@gmail.com
